A paper by Dr. Akiko Takahashi et al. (Cancer Research Institute of Japan) belonging the R&D Theme 3 has been published in Nature Communications
It has been known that senescent cells are less likely to undergo ferroptosis and therefore are less likely to be eliminated from the body, but this paper elucidates the mechanism for the first time and discusses the importance of the acidity of lysosomes.
Since the same behavior is observed in pancreatic cancer, the development of drugs that increase the acidity of lysosomes is expected.
