Horizon Japan International School students (Grade 10) experienced research at iCONM.

On May 21, about 30 Grade 10 students from Horizon Japan International School (Yokohama, Kanagawa) visited iCONM for a day of research experience. Initially, Dr. Makoto Shimazaki, Deputy PL (Communication Manager at iCONM), provided an overview of iCONM and explained the activities of Project CHANGE. Dr. Sabina Quader, Chief Coordinator for Global Partnerships (Deputy Senior Researcher at iCONM), then introduced the experimental menu for the day. The students were divided into four groups and conducted four types of experiments, including observing cancer cells with a confocal laser microscope and experiencing DNA electrophoresis.

After lunch, Ms. Rui Shuhama, a executive researcher at Dai-ichi Life Research Institute, gave a lecture on career design for global talent based on his extensive overseas experience. This was followed by a talk from Prof. Kazunori Kataoka, Center Director of iCONM, on the overarching way of thinking as a researcher.

It seems that this experience provided a valuable opportunity for the students, many of whom are children of expatriates or returnees, to design their future lives.
