On April 16, Prof. Takanori Ichiki, Project Leader (Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo/iCONM Research Director), took the stage as the opening speaker at the Life Science Symposium co-hosted by Link-J and UC San Diego. The theme was "Healthcare Engineering: Advanced Technological Development Aiming to Solve Issues in an Aging Society – Utilizing Wearable Sensors, AI, Nanotechnology, and Their Applications in Healthcare and Nursing." He discussed the concept of an "In-Body Hospital" and explained the efforts towards realizing a resilient, healthy, and long-lasting society with Med-Tech-Care Synergy under Project CHANGE. The challenges of a declining birthrate and an aging population are not only issues for Japan but are also viewed as serious challenges in the near future overseas. The discussion focused on technologies that can supplement the insufficient healthcare workforce without compromising the quality of people's lives.
