About MEXT/JST “Program on open innovation platform for industry-academia co-creation (COI-NEXT)”

CHANGE

This is an industry-academia collaboration program in which universities and others take the lead in formulating a vision for the future society (vision of the center), promoting research and development to realize the vision, and forming an independent center of industry-academia-government co-creation that will continuously produce results even after the project is completed. The program is called "COI-NEXT" because of its institutional design based on the "vision-driven, back-casting R&D" concept of the Center of Innovation (COI) program, one of JST’s existing center-forming programs. As universities and other institutions, which are hubs of knowledge and human resources, play an increasing role in innovation creation, reforms to date have strengthened the governance and innovation creation capabilities of universities and other institutions. As the world searches for a "with/post-corona" society, in order for Japan to solve the challenges it faces now and in the future and to compete on a par with the rest of the world, it will be necessary to build an innovation ecosystem that responds to future uncertainty and a knowledge-intensive society through industry-academia-government co-creation (industry-academia-government co-creation), where "organizations" work together with "organizations". To compete with the rest of the world, it will be necessary to build an innovation ecosystem that responds to future uncertainties and a knowledge-intensive society.
