Engineering and AI: Improving Nursing—A University of Tokyo Student Club Takes on the Challenge of Solving Problems
MeDCraft, a student club at the University of Tokyo that won the Grand Prize in a pitch contest for young researchers on new research topics held last November and has since been working at this center to develop a “communication support tool for nurses and patients utilizing AI and other technologies,” was featured in the September 8 evening edition of the Asahi Shimbun. The group’s representative, Arisa Uchida (a first-year master’s student in the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo), spoke with the reporter and shared her thoughts on the background of MeDCraft’s founding and the importance of design thinking. Project Leader Ichiki (Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo) stated, “If we wait for things to take shape within companies, university faculties, departments, or laboratories, we won’t be able to address on-the-ground challenges in time. The value of a university lies in the energy of its students. I want to create an environment where that potential can be fully realized.”
