New Nursing Technology from Kawasaki Turns Hospital Rooms into Virtual Homes—Nurse Call System for Home Use
Summary:
In Kawasaki City, development is underway on new technologies to address the increasing burden on nursing care caused by the declining birthrate and aging population. At the JST COI-NEXT Kawasaki Hub (Project CHANGE), researchers have prototyped a “Virtual Home” system that projects images of patients’ homes and families onto hospital screens to provide a sense of security, as well as a “Face-to-Face Nurse Call” system that connects visiting nurses with patients receiving home care via video. The goal is to reduce the need for physical restraints and improve the efficiency of home nursing care. With the number of elderly people receiving home care and family caregivers expected to rise, the team is proceeding with demonstration studies and data collection, aiming to commercialize these technologies through collaboration with companies.
