mRNA Vaccine for P. aeruginosa

Summary:

The research group led by Professor Satoshi Uchida from Tokyo Science University, participating in Project CHANGE's research theme 2, has developed a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine targeting the drug-resistant bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa in collaboration with Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine. Utilizing a new technique called "Pure Cap Method," they achieved nearly 100% removal of impurities from the mRNA, enhancing antibody production efficiency. In mouse experiments, the survival rate increased by 40%, and the amount of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was significantly reduced. This research is expected to be applicable to other pathogenic bacteria and contribute to the development of vaccines that do not rely on antibiotics. The results were published in the international scientific journal Journal of Controlled Release.
