02/10/2025
On January 31, a workshop themed “Senescence Control” was held at the Tamachi campus of Institute of Science Tokyo. This workshop was a group discussion involving members from Group 3, which focuses on research and development related to senescence control, and Group 5, which addresses the social implementation of technology, as part of the national project COI-NEXT Kawasaki base (Project CHANGE) organized by MEXT and JST. External speakers included Associate Professor Nobuyuki Shirakawa (Deputy Director of the ELSI Center, Niigata University), Fellow Shiho Hamada (STI Infrastructure Unit, JST Research and Development Strategy Center), and Professor Tamami Fukushi (Faculty of Human Welfare, Tokyo Online University).
From the perspectives of systems, society, and the environment, the workshop organized the issues necessary for the social implementation of senescence control technologies being developed by Group 3. By discussing from various angles, including ELSI/RRI, the path forward became clearer, and a shared understanding among attendees deepened, making it a meaningful event.
