Workshop with Nurses from Kawasaki City and CHANGE Members Held

On December 15, we organized a workshop (WS) for 22 nurses working in Kawasaki City, in collaboration with CHANGE members. The event was hosted by the Kawasaki Nursing Association and the Labor Environment Improvement Promotion Committee, aiming to raise awareness of the project among a broader audience of nurses. Following welcoming remarks from Chairperson Akie Hotta and an overview by Junko Goto (Committee Chair), Yukihiro Kanda (iCONM Researcher) and Yuki Kojima (Deputy Nursing Manager, Ida Hospital) presented on the topic of "Shadowing."

Traditionally, "Shadowing" involves junior nurses following experienced nurses to learn practical skills. However, we devised a plan where engineering researchers would practice using the same method instead of junior nurses. The goal is for these researchers to gain a better understanding of nursing processes and generate ideas for tools and systems that enhance efficiency. We learned that this approach is already beginning to positively influence nurses' work styles. This was the second workshop of its kind; last year, it focused on nurse beginners. This year, it targeted individuals who applied for the "Nursing Needs Survey" or expressed interest, primarily attracting mid-career to management-level nurses.

As a result, many participants voiced their daily challenges, and discussing these issues sparked lively conversations in each group. In closing, Takanori Ichiki, the CHANGE Project Leader, offered a summary and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the nurses who consistently manage demanding workloads.
