Second-year students of the Science Department of Kawasaki High School & Technology think about their healthy future.
On June 2nd, about 40 second-year students from the Science Department of Kawasaki City High School for Science and Technology visited iCONM.
First, Dr. Makoto Shimazaki, the Communications Manager, provided an overview of iCONM/CHANGE. After that, the students were divided into four groups and toured the various floors of iCONM. Their enthusiastic questioning of the guides on each floor demonstrated their high level of interest.
In the afternoon, a networking event was held where students could talk directly with researchers. The discussions centered around pre-prepared questions regarding career paths in research, work styles, and the content of the research. One student commented, “I would like to use today’s experience as a reference when making my career choices.” The students have various dreams, and this event seems to have aided them in their future decision-making.
The students who participated in this visit will engage in an outreach class at their school in September and a workshop in November in collaboration with the Welfare Class of Kawasaki City Kawasaki High School. Through these experiences, we hope they will envision a future impacted by declining birth rates and an aging population, and develop the intention to create an ideal society (a society where health concerns are minimized).
